[00:04.97] And now my friends you've asked me what makes me sad and still
[00:09.99] And why my brow is darkened like the clouds upon the hill
[00:15.04] Run in your ponies closer and I'll tell to you my tale
[00:21.06] Of Utah Carol my partner and his last ride on the trail
[00:27.15] We rode the range together and rode it side by side
[00:33.20] I loved him like a brother, and I wept when Utah died
[00:38.27] We were rounding up one morning when work was almost done
[00:44.34] When on his side the cattle started on a frightened run
[00:50.37] Underneath the saddle that the boss's daughter rode
[00:55.46] Utah that very morning had placed a bright red robe
[01:01.46] So the saddle might ride easy for Lenore his little friend
[01:06.56] And it was this red blanket that brought him to his end
[01:12.63] The blanket was now dragging behind her on the ground
[01:18.68] The frightened cattle saw it and charged it with a bound
[01:23.70] Lenore then saw her danger and turned her pony's face
[01:29.69] And leaning in the saddle tied the blanket to its place
[01:34.79] But in leaning lost her balance, fell in front of that wild tide
[01:40.85] "Lay still Lenore I'm coming" were the words that Utah cried
[01:45.90] His faithful pony saw her and reached her in a bound
[01:51.95] I thought he'd been successful, and raised her from the ground
[01:57.03] But the weight upon the saddle had not been felt before
[02:03.11] His backcinch snapped like thunder and he fell by Lenore
[02:09.19] Picking up the blanket he swung it over his head
[02:15.23] And started cross the prairie, "Lay still Lenore" he said
[02:20.29] When he got the stampede turned and saved Lenore his friend
[02:25.57] He turned to face the cattle and meet his fatal end
[02:31.67] His six gun flashed like lightning, the report rang loud and clear
[02:37.70] As the cattle rushed and killed him he dropped the leading steer
[02:42.74] On his funeral morning I heard the preacher say
[02:48.72] I hope we'll all meet Utah at the roundup far away
[02:53.81] Then they wrapped him in a blanket that saved his little friend
[02:59.85] And it was this red blanket that brought him to his end
[03:10.98]
